Borussia Dortmund players celebrates one of their goals against Hertha Berlin.

Borussia Dortmund defeated Hertha Berlin by two-goals to nothing in a Bundesliga fixture played at the Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund.

The first goal of the match was scored in the fifteen minute of the game by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabonese striker curled into the net the ball from a Nuri Sahin’s cross from the left-flank of the eighteen yard box.

Sahin doubled Dortmund’s lead in the fifty seventh minute of the game. In the build-up to his goal, a rampaging Christian Pulisic sent a low cross into the opponent’s eighteen yard box, which Maximilian Philipp tried to shoot into the net but the ball was deflected by a Hertha Berlin’s player onto the path of Sahin, who fired the ball into the top-most part of the net.

Dortmund dominated in the first half of the game, they had more ball possession and their fluid passing game enabled them to penetrate easily into the opponent’s half of the pitch.

Christian Pulisic made himself felt throughout the match with his dribbling runs, his precise passes and the bravery with which he attacked the opponent whenever he had the ball at his feet. The American teenager missed so many goal-scoring opportunities owing to his greenness in the act of scoring and the good goalkeeping of Hertha Berlin’s keeper, Rune Almenning Jarstein.

Dortmund’s goalkeeper, Roman Buerki, made very excellent saves in both halves of the game to prevent the visiting team from scoring any goal. He pulled brilliant saves from direct shots in the few occasions the visiting team had opportunities to score.

Nuri Sahin and Christian Pulisic were in excellent form in this game. With a little honing of shooting skills, Pulisic would add goal scoring to his general skill-set, which would make him one of the most lethal attacking mid-fielders in world football in the coming years.

Today’s victory showed to some extent that Borussia Dortmund would cope very well this football season in the absence of Ousmane Dembele, who recently signed for Barcelona.

This game was Peter Bosz’s second consecutive league match victory since he took over the managerial reins at Signal Iduna park.
