Marco Alonzo Celebrates one of his goals against Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea returned to winning ways when they defeated a hard-fighting Tottenham Hotspur’s side in a Premier League match played inside the prestigious Wembley Stadium.

After the home-defeat to Burnley at Stamford Bridge last week, a reaction was expected from the league’s defending champions. Antonio Conte’s men answered all the questions they were asked in this explosive encounter – when the need arose for goals – they scored; when defensive play was needed – they defended very well.

Chelsea’s wing back, Marco Alonzo, scored their two goals in both halves. The Spaniard converted the free kick that was awarded to his side outside the opponent’s eighteen yard box. He was on hand again to beat Hugo Lloris with a curling shot inside Tottenham’s eighteen yard box in the dying minutes of the second half.Michy Batsuayi deflected a Christian Eriksen’s free kick inside his own net to equalize for Tottenham.

Alvaro Morata wasted a chance to put his side ahead in the fourth minute of the game when he headed the ball from a Caesar Azpilicueta’s cross out of the pitch from inside the opponent’s penalty box.

With both teams handling their defensive duties very well, it was difficult for either side to maintain a sustained attacking play against the other.

Thibaut Courtois drew a brilliant save from Musa Dembele’s shot in the nineteenth minute of the game.

After Tottenham conceded their goal in the first half, they came all out in search of an equalizer.

Harry Kane troubled Chelsea’s defender with his power, his hold-up play and his shots from all areas in their final third. Kane had a chance to score in twenty ninth minute but Courtois saved his effort with his out-stretched leg.

In the last ten minutes of the first half, Chelsea were besieged by a sustained attack from Tottenham and it required the good goalkeeping and compact defending of their players prevented their opponent from scoring.

The second half of the game turned out to be a keenly contested one between both teams.Chelsea’s game again highlighted the beauty of their formation that allows their wing backs to shore up play in the defense, mid-field and attack.

Just when it appeared that Tottenham was about to earn a point from the match after their equalizer, Alonzo scored the second time to give Chelsea a victory they would cherished very well.

Today’s performance showed that Chelsea are still very much in contention to clinch the league trophy at the end of this season. They have somewhat struggled in the opening two games due to the absence of the injured Eden Hazard and Pedro Rodriguez, who made a cameo appearance in today’s match and was still able to give an assist.

Tottenham have nothing to be ashamed of with this loss, though a little strengthening may be needed to swell the number of players in their squad before the season ends.
