PSG players celebrates

Paris Saint Germain began their league campaign by beating Ligue 1 debutant, Amiens SC, by two-goals-to-nothing inside Parc des Princes. The game which had Neymar, their latest signing, watching from the stands was dominated by the Parisian club from the beginning to the very end.

The first half started with the home team dominating possession , and using their free passing game to gain entry into the opponent’s half with remarkable ease.

Amiens defended in numbers and when they had opportunities to attack, they poured forward in numbers into PSG’s half of the pitch but on such occasions their attacking threats were dealt with by a well-drilled PSG’s backline.

PSG had an opportunity to score in the fifth minute of the game when Angel Di Maria laid a pass to Edison Cavani inside the opponent’s penalty box, but the Argentine striker’s final shot went wide from the goalpost.

The home team continued to mount pressure upon their opponent , but found it extremely difficult to breach their defence line manned by ten players.

Adrien Rabiot missed a clear-scoring chance in the eighteen minute of the game. A Dani Alves’ shot was deflected off the knee of an Amiens defender and the ball flew in front of Rabiot, who headed the ball towards the goalpost only for it to bounce off the cross bar.

Amiens’ winger Harrison Manzala was very dangerous each time he attacked PSG from the left flank , on few occasions he was able to get past Dani Alves at the right full back position.

PSG’s almost scored in the fortieth minute of the match when Angel Di Maria goal-bound ball was cleared from the six yard box by a PSG’s defender.

Cavani scored for the home side in the forty second minute of the match.Dani Alves, on sighting Cavani, sent a pass into Amiens penalty box which and an onrushing Cavani latched onto it, he executed two brilliant touches that enabled him to evade his marker and afforded him the purchase to spin the ball into the net.

On resumption of the second half, PSG continued to dominate the ball possession but were sometimes guilty of making sloppy passes.

PSG would have doubled their lead in the fifty fourth minute of the game if goalkeeper  Regis Gurtner had not saved  Di Maria’s thunderous volley from the penalty box.

Twice Gurtner made brilliant saves of Cavani’s strikes from inside the penalty box.

Javier Pastore eventually scored the winning goal for PSG in the eighty first minute of the match. A PSG’s counter-attack led to Marco Veratti feeding a pass to Cavani who raced with the ball into the opponent’s eighteen yard box, from there he sent a weighted pass into the eighteen yard box which Pastore smashed into the net to seal victory for the Parisian club.
