Germany defeated Czech Republic by two-goals to one in a group C UEFA World cup qualifying match played in Prague.
Germany started the match on a good note , playing their passing game which enabled them to make inroads into the Czech’s Republic final third with remarkable ease.
Four minutes after the commencement of the second half Mesut Ozil , operating in the advanced mid-field position, was able to feed a pass to Timo Werner inside the opponent’s eighteen yard box and the RB Leipzig’s striker beat an on-rushing goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik with his first touch of the ball inside penalty box.
Czech Republic reacted well after conceding the goal, but poor decision robbed them of an early equalizer whenever they created scoring opportunities in Germany’s final third.
Germany’s goalkeeper Ter Stegen managed to push out of play Jan Boril’s low shot in the fifteenth minute of the game.
In spite of Germany’s dominance of the game with their superior ball possession , Czech players were able to thwart their opponent’s free-flowing games with their well-timed tackles and their ability to defend in numbers.
Vaclik made a brilliant save of what would have been Germany’s second goal when his out-stretched leg deflected Lars Stindl’s effort from inside his eighteen yard box.
Czech Republic continued to attack Germany’s half of the pitch in the second half with increasing success, and their effort finally paid off in the seventy eighth minutes of the game when Vladimir Darida shot from about twenty two yards flew beyond Ter Stergen into the far corner of the net.
Germany regrouped after the equalizer and took the game to their opponent’s half. A rash challenge by Czech Republic’s captain, Marek Suchy, on Thomas Muller earned the Germans a free kick outside the opponent’s eighteen yard box. Toni Kross took the free kick ; he floated the ball into Czech’s penalty box and on-rushing Mat Hummel headed the ball into the net.
Germany were able to contained Czech Republic’s late attempt to equalize, and they deservedly earned the three points at stake on a night when they were not at their best.
