Some Manchester City players celebrate one of the goals against Brighton.

Manchester City defeated Brighton & Hoves Albion by two-goals-to-nothing in a Saturday Premier League match played inside the Etihad Stadium.

The Citizens scored in both halves of the match through Raheem Sterling and  Sergio Aguero , in a match that their team dominated from the start to the finish.

City were in ascendancy in the opening half of the game in which their signature way of playing was on display , as they enjoyed majority of the ball possession and had more attacking intent than their opponent.

Brighton showed great defensive discipline , which enabled them to keep the score line respectable in the opening half in which they had only one attempt at scoring.

The clearest scoring chance came to City in the twenty second minute when Aguero mis-kicked a Sterling’s cross that found him inside the opponent’s eighteen yard box.

The home team persistent attacking play paid off in the twenty eighth minute when Sterling scored , sweeping into the net a Leroy Sane’s low cross from the six yard box.

Matthew Ryan made two excellent saves to prevent Sterling and Fernadinho from doubling their side’s lead later on in the first half.

City continued with the total dominance of the game on the resumption of the second half , they pinned their opponent to their half of the pitch and left them do their onerous task of defending.

Sane wasted an opportunity to double City’s lead when he headed over the crossbar a Bernando’s Silva’s cross that located him inside the Seagulls’ six yard box.

On one occasion of a sustained City’s pressure in Brighton’s goal-mouth , goalkeeper Matthew Ryan punched out of danger a David Silva’s shot from inside the eighteen yard box.

Aguero scored City’s second goal in the sixty fourth minute , slicing into the net a Sterling”s reverse pass that found him inside the six yard box. The Argentine striker initiated the move that led to the goal, dribbling from the center-half line before feeding the pass to Sterling inside the opponent’s eighteen yard box.

Ferdinandinho was lucky not to concede a penalty when he handled the ball as he cleared a Brighton’s corner-kick during the terminal part of the match.

The Citizens attacked till the end of the match but failed to increase their goal tally due to the resolute defending of their opponent.
